What to know for class

  • Arrive Early: We value the importance of a proper warm-up to prevent injuries! We recommend arriving 15 minutes before your class to warm up. Due to the risk of injury, students cannot be admitted 15 minutes after class begins.
  • Use our Props: We have lacrosse balls, foam rollers, straps, and yoga blocks available in the prop closet for you to warm up.
  • Stay hydrated: We recommend bringing a water bottle to take into the studio with you (clear liquids only). All other personal belongings will stay in the lobby or in your car.
  • Plan ahead: Use the restroom before class to avoid disruptions.
  • Stay present: Maximize your class time by only stepping out for emergencies.
  • Pointe Policy: Pointe shoes are not allowed in any classes unless the class is designated as a pointe class. All students wishing to take pointe at NOVA must have completed RISE.

FAQs

  • What do I wear?

Class attire is anything you feel comfortable moving in! Dance attire is encouraged but not requried. We recommend clothing that's comfortable but more form fitting so it won't get in your way while you're dancing.

  • Do I need specific shoes?

Socks (with or without grips) can be worn for most classes but we do recommend dance specific footwear. Looking for ballet or tap shoes? Get fitted at NOVA and have them shipped straight to your door!

Ballet: Ballet flats or socks for your first few classes

Contemporary: Dance socks or regular socks

Jazz: Jazz shoes, socks, or bare foot

Tap: Tap shoes required, if you don’t have a pair we have some donated pairs to borrow or get fitted at NOVA

  • Can I wear pointe shoes in class?

For safety reasons pointe shoes are not allowed in any classes unless the class is designated as a pointe class.  All students wishing to take pointe at NOVA must have completed RISE.
